Banking Frontend Revamp Case Study: IDFC First Bank

A direct, ~2.5-year frontend partnership with IDFC First Bank: a full website revamp, reusable components and continuous enhancements without disrupting live banking journeys.

IDFC First Bank

IDFC First Bank is one of India's fastest-growing banks. For about 2.5 years, Ranbanka Systems worked directly with the bank, with no agency in between, on a frontend revamp of its banking website and the continuous enhancement work that followed. It was not a one-off build. What started as a revamp became a long-term frontend transformation partnership.

This banking frontend revamp case study covers what the bank needed, what we built, and how we kept live customer journeys stable while the frontend was being modernised around them.

Before this engagement, we had delivered frontend projects for other major Indian banks through agency partners. That track record helped establish the expertise and credibility that led to IDFC First Bank engaging us directly.

The challenge

The bank needed a comprehensive frontend revamp of its digital banking experience. The goal was a more modern, intuitive and responsive experience for customers across multiple banking products, services and customer journeys.

The objectives were clear:

  • Improve the overall UI/UX of the website
  • Establish greater consistency across pages and journeys
  • Support responsive experiences across desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Create a scalable frontend foundation that could accommodate continuous business and content requirements

The hard part was doing all of this on a large, business-critical banking website. The platform contained numerous products, services, forms, interactions and customer journeys. Each change had to move the experience forward without compromising what already worked. Balancing new frontend development against the stability of existing banking journeys was the central challenge of the engagement.

What we built

A website-wide revamp on reusable foundations

We delivered a complete frontend revamp of the banking website, with a modern responsive UI across desktop, tablet and mobile. Rather than building each page in isolation, we created reusable UI components and page patterns, along with structured page templates. This gave the bank a consistent visual language and a scalable foundation for new product and service pages as business needs changed.

Product discovery and navigation

We built product and service pages, banking product discovery journeys, and navigation and mega-menu experiences to help customers find their way across the bank's offering. Hero banners and promotional modules supported the bank's campaigns and content. For more on the thinking behind this kind of work, see our guide to banking website frontend development.

Forms, CTAs and conversion journeys

Lead-generation and enquiry forms are a key part of many banking journeys. We implemented these forms with form validation and error-state handling, alongside CTAs and conversion-focused customer journeys. Interactions were built to be analytics and event-tracking ready, so the bank's teams could measure how customers moved through each journey.

Interactive modules

Where required, we built financial and product calculators, as well as interactive comparison and information modules and interactive content sections that help customers understand and compare products.

Quality built into the frontend

Across the site, the work included:

  • Mobile-first responsive behaviour
  • Cross-browser compatibility
  • Accessibility-conscious UI implementation
  • Pixel-perfect conversion of approved designs
  • Frontend performance optimisation
  • SEO-friendly frontend implementation

The stack was HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript / jQuery, with responsive, mobile-first implementation throughout.

How we delivered it

A dedicated frontend and QA team

The engagement was delivered by a dedicated frontend development and QA team working directly with the bank's stakeholders and its design and business teams, without an agency in between.

Gradual modernisation, not a risky rewrite

Instead of replacing everything at once, we established reusable UI patterns and components, then modernised existing frontend experiences gradually. This approach helped maintain consistency across different banking journeys while the revamp progressed.

Testing every change against existing journeys

Because new features were added continuously, quality assurance ran throughout the engagement rather than only at the end. Our process covered:

  • Responsive validation across desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Cross-browser testing
  • Functional and regression testing, so new changes did not impact existing journeys
  • Pixel-perfect implementation checked against approved designs
  • Careful validation of forms, CTAs and interactive elements
  • Accessibility and usability checks
  • Performance optimisation

We have written more about two of these disciplines in pixel-perfect design to code for responsive UI and our cross-browser compatibility testing guide.

Continuous enhancement over the long term

A dedicated frontend development and QA team supported the frontend throughout the engagement. The long-term nature of the work enabled continuous frontend modernisation, new feature development, UI enhancements, bug fixing and optimisation across the project lifecycle. That ongoing support is what turned a revamp into a continuing transformation. If you are weighing this kind of arrangement, our website maintenance and support services guide explains what to look for.

The result

Over about 2.5 years, we partnered directly with IDFC First Bank to revamp and continuously enhance its frontend. The outcome was a more modern, responsive, consistent and scalable digital experience across multiple banking products and customer journeys.

Just as important, the reusable components and page patterns gave the bank a frontend foundation that could accommodate new business and content requirements, while continuous QA supported the stability of existing customer journeys.

Shubhral Tiwari, Product Manager at IDFC FIRST Bank, described the partnership this way:

"The professionalism and technical acumen of Ranbanka Systems are unmatched. They provided us with tailored solutions that perfectly fit our banking needs. Their proactive communication and quick turnaround times ensured our project was completed seamlessly. We highly recommend them for any organization looking for top-tier frontend support."
